Duo Kita in Concert…….1012 East Coast Rd., 8pm Sat. 18th June

We are pleased to host a concert here in Auckland for Duo Kitā as part of their New Zealand tour.
(see attachment for more information.)
Duo Kitā

Classical guitarists Jake Church and George Wills formed Duo Kitā in 2014. Duo Kitā completed their debut New Zealand tour in 2015 and quickly established themselves as an exciting chamber group. This tour was supported with a Freemasons Lankhuyzen/Whetu-Kairangi Music Award. A passionate interest in a variety of music leads their programs to explore music from European lute culture to modern day composers who unashamedly push the boundaries of the classical guitar. Performance highlights include the Victoria University Alumni Awards Ceremony, Victoria University Legacy Club, St Andrews on the Terrace, and the Sarah Lilli Family Charity Concert 2015. Recently, Duo Kitā performed as finalists in the prestigious Pettman/Royal Overseas League Chamber Competition.
In 2016, both Jake and George received the New Zealand Aspiring Guitarist Awards for the Taranaki Classical Guitar Summer School. After performing a featured concert as soloists, Duo Kitā closed the Summer School with a performance of Marek Pasieczny’s Polish Sketches. Jake and George wish to thank the Freemasons Hinemoa-Kairangi Benevolent trust for generously supporting their 2016 NZ tour.

This multi-genre-concert-experiment will feature a robotic bass guitarist (*spoiler alert*), invented by a kiwi engineer, performing live music in harmony with exceptional human musicians.

Can a robot play music with feeling?

Will you clap for a robot?

How long until robots take over?

We will question of the future of machines in art, through a sonically rich set of performances including pieces from the history of Classic, Blues, Jazz, Rock, and Experimental music.

Some of the best and most talented musicians from New Zealand have been assembled to take on this challenge: Cheryl Grice (Classical Guitar), Sean Clancy (Electric Guitar), Petr Tomek (Piano), and Sam Holdom (Drums).

This will be the first, and maybe the last, performance of its kind worldwide.

Join us to witness history in the making… for better or worse.
