Chris , a great young guitarist, will be here on the 18th with an interesting program.Christopher is a prize-winning guitarist and a graduate of New Zealand School of Music (First-class honours), under the tutelage of Dr. Jane Curry and Owen Moriarty. Beginning his classical guitar studies in 2016, whilst majoring in Jazz Guitar at the New Zealand School of Music (NZSM), he switched to full-time classical guitar studies in 2018 and in 2019 was offered a position to study with Dr. Paul Cesarczyk at Mahidol College of Music, which was made possible thanks to the support of the Freemasons Lankuyzen/Whetu-Kairangi Trust and VicAbroad.
Since returning to NZ in 2020 Christopher has become one of the country’s most active classical guitarists performing throughout the country with ensembles such as the New Baroque Generation (Archlute and 19th Century Guitar), Kowhaiwhai Duo (Classical Guitar Duo), as well as performing locally with groups: What the Pluck? (Guitar Quartet), The Mountain Woods Duo (Flute/Guitar Eastern European music), The SMP Ensemble (contemporary music group) in festivals such as Classical on Cuba, Performance Arcade and Fringe Festival. In addition to this he has performed extensively as a soloist, premiering several new works including the 2019 and 2020 Matthew Marshall Composition Competition winning pieces for Classical Guitar, and most recently touring ‘Fantasy Variations’, which was kindly sponsored by the Waikanae Music Society.
In 2023 in preparation for auditions to Masters programmes overseas Christopher attended Camino de los Artes workshop in Carrión de los Condes, Spain, led by world-renowned pedagogue René Izquierdo, supported by the Dame Malvina Major Foundation and Freemasons Lankhuyzen/Whetu-Kairangi. Christopher has been awarded one of two New Zealand Aspiring Guitarist (NZAG) awards for 2024 and will perform alongside fellow NZSM graduate Hamish Goodhue at the Taranaki Classical Guitar Summer School in January.<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<0>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
