GUEST Artist

Matthew Sutton

본문 이미지 1

From a young age a passion and aptitude for the folk music of classical guitar has brought Matthew Sutton through many styles and disciplines of the instrument. Furthermore the academic critique and sharpened musical performance tools granted under the guidance of Gunter Herbig at the University of Auckland have not gone wasted in exploring his field to all corners. Today, after having had ten years of experience performing classical guitar at concerts, competitions and professionally at many various occasions, he brings to the hall a niche of style and skill that can only compare to those of few other guitarists in his field.Flamenco being the keystone of his work gives strength, power and rhythm to his technique while the study of music as delicate as baroque or as abstract as contemporary adds a balance that is easily palatable. The works of Manolo Sanlucar and Baden Powell which he will focus on in this concert have been carefully chosen to compliment his style for a special experience of the instrument.

GUEST Artist

Sonic Wave(Sasha Witten-Hannah and Curtis Davies)

On the 12th of June the Classical Guitar Society will hear how different genres can work together. I have been working with my colleague Curtis  Davies who like me is an itinerant music teacher at the Michael Park Steiner School in Ellerslie. What started simply as fun jam sessions mixing classical guitar and blues improvisation has become an inspiring collaboration to create our own music.
Have a look at our website and hear a few short samples: http://sonicwave.kiwi/
On Sunday we will be presenting a wide range of our original pieces composed and developed over the last 2 years. Since Curtis largely improvises every performance contains it’s own unique magic.
The titles of the pieces we will play follow the theme of water which will become our first album that we have begun recording. They include:
Summer Rain, Deep Ocean, Above the Abyss, Spanish Coast, Amazonian Zeal, Ecstatic Storm, Rainbow Skies, Freedom Surfers, Sagamartha (Everest – Mother of the world)
As you can tell from those titles we’re still having a lot of fun and we’re delighted to share our zany creativity with the Classical Guitar Society.
Arohanui,
Sasha Witten-Hannah

Sonic Wave plays instrumental music composed by both Sasha Witten-Hannah and Curtis Davies that blends together their very different styles.
Silky Contemporary Groovy Blues and Refined Crystalized Classical guitar music with subtle beats and ambient sound effects create a whole new world both exciting and relaxing, awe inspiring and reflective.
