Biography

Born in 1988, Barkin maintained full scholarship at Bilkent University- Faculty of Music & Performing Arts – throughout his education for 9 years. After graduating with an Honors degree at just 19 years old, he immediately started teaching in Bilkent University and Cankaya University, delivering both theoretical and practical lessons. In the meantime, he pursued competitions and concerts, touring across Europe and Asia, through which he has familiarised himself with ethnomusicology and experimental music.

He has contributed to many masterclasses and workshops, through both hosting and teaching. Some of the names are; Costas Cotsiolis, Roland Dyens, Leo Brouwer, Aniello Desiderio and Marco Socias.

His expeditions to various guitar festivals across the world from Naxos to Köln has enabled him to practice Alexander technique as it applies to Classical Guitar. Further studies Barkin has focused on include; handicaps of Classical Guitar, Baroque style and fingering techniques on Classical Guitar, Classical Era; the music of Fernando Sor and Mauro Giuliani, Francisco Tarrega and late romanticism, Modernism and Nationalism; post-Andres Segovia, Contemporary Era and the music of Leo Brouwer.

As a result of personal interest and studies in electric guitar, equipment and ethnic instruments, he was accepted to Cirque du Soleil’s “Zed” as a multi-instrumentalist.
